Immerse yourself with us in the world of garden design and discover how a dull and desolate garden can be transformed into a true paradise full of flowering perennials and vegetable beds.

So far, there is no good concept for the 14 by 6 meter sunny area between the small shed and the shelter. In addition to a seating area to relax, the garden owners also want space to cultivate a few vegetable beds, and they can also have flowers. Below we present our two design ideas. You can find the planting plans for downloading at the end of the article.

Suggestion 1: Paradise garden for harvesting and relaxing

A low topiary hedge made of spoon holly along the path and a half-height, natural wooden fence to the neighboring property help to make the small garden more visible as a separate area. Recesses in the hedge allow access at various points. A paved path in the middle and a wooden arch on which the frequently flowering climbing rose ‘Jasmina’ grows give the design idea additional structure, as do the two Portuguese cherry laurel ball trees.

The existing apple tree finds a new place in the front area and becomes an inviting seating area thanks to the tree bench

The simple greenhouse with a wooden frame cuts a fine figure; heat-loving tomatoes feel at home here. Vegetables thrive in the small raised bed , as does the large bed in which runner beans and lettuce are grown, for example.

A shelter with a spacious bench was built in the back area, which blends harmoniously into the garden with a green coat of paint. The climbing rose ‘Jasmina’ climbs up the outside wall and exudes a sweet scent. A small terrace was created in front of it using existing floor tiles. And the evening sun can be enjoyed wonderfully on the comfortable Adirondack wooden chairs. Narrow perennial beds bring color to the paradise garden and lighten up the design. The color motto in the flower beds is white, pink and blue.

Meadow daisies , planted as small islands in the lawn, add a rural charm . A lawn path in between connects the seating area with the path by the rose arch. A wooden fence marks the transition to the vegetable garden. Popular kitchen herbs such as rosemary , chives and thyme grow in the small bed in front.

Suggestion 2: Garden happiness with vegetables and flowers

In this proposal, the garden is divided into two areas using runner beans. In summer in particular, the trellises are densely covered with runner beans and decorate the garden with delicate flowers – and then provide a rich harvest. The wooden trellises are put up in spring and removed in autumn. At the back, they do not reach the new paddock fence because ponies graze on the neighboring property. The beans are poisonous to them. There are three other small vegetable beds along the path.

What is striking about the redesign are the runner beans that divide the property into two areas

The tomato house can be placed right next to the fence, as can the existing bistro furniture, which will be moved there. From here you can now watch the ponies and let your gaze wander over the flowerbeds. In summer, yellow cinquefoil , light yellow mullein and the meadow cranesbill ‘Brookside’ and the pigeon scabious ‘Butterfly Blue’ bloom in them. There are also white-flowering ornamental onions and the white yarrow ‘Heinrich Vogeler’. They will later be replaced by the star cloud aster ‘Snowbank’ of the same color. The bushy, late-flowering perennial grows to a height of one to one and a half meters and is considered to be particularly sturdy.

Colorful meadow flowers create a cheerful atmosphere on the terrace, which is furnished with modern armchairs. The paving area has been slightly enlarged. The new rain barrel has a lid that can be planted

In the back part of the garden, a plum tree has been added to the apple tree. A special flower mixture for meadow orchards has been sown underneath. The paths through the meadow and the area needed for the bean care and harvest are made of normal grass. The terrace in the meadow has been enlarged a little to accommodate the modern, expansive garden chairs. They fit wonderfully into the rural flair of the mini orchard.
