A garden shed, a high hedge for privacy and a large lawn – very nice, but still a little dreary. We’ll show you two suggestions on how you can turn it into a flower paradise.

The small garden house is well protected by an evergreen hedge, and there is a lawn in front of it. It’s high time to bring some color into the green monotony with flower beds.
Suggestion 1: Cheerful, colorful path borders
Here, a narrow gravel path is laid out in the lawn , which leads to the garden house with a gentle curve. To the left and right of the path and in front of the arborvitae hedge, narrow beds with perennials and ornamental shrubs complement the lawn.

As early as April, the first carmine-red flowers appear, such as the Bergenia ‘Morgenröte’ or the blood currant ; the dwarf almond ‘Fire-Hill’ matches this with its countless pink flowers. The ornamental shrub, which can grow up to 150 centimeters tall, grows between purple lavender and the pink small shrub rose ‘Pink Bassino’ on the right in the bed. Since the newly planted shrubs almost all form their flowers before the leaves, the garden looks quite lush in spring.
From May onwards, the Japanese azalea ‘Noriko’ boasts carmine-red flowers, accompanied by the pink-flowering weigela . Both flowering stars have enough space in front of the evergreen hedge. A pretty companion is the fragrant carnation, which also blooms from May onwards. The lush rose tufts of ‘Pink Bassino’, lavender, the blue-flowering ceanothus standard trees and the red petunias in pots by the garden house provide flowers in summer.
Suggestion 2: Easy-care flower kingdom
If you want to go on holiday without having to travel far, the best place to do so is in your own garden. In front of the opaque hedge, part of the lawn is transformed into a small sandy beach where the children can dig while the parents relax in a comfortable beach chair.

The perfect accompaniment consists of yellow, violet or blue flowering perennials and the yellow shrub rose ‘Postillon’. In the foreground, the yellow star-shaped flowers of the black-leafed primrose bloom from June to September. In between, the overhanging branches of the light pink Deutzia (Deutzia x kalmiiflora) protrude. The robust ornamental shrub, which blooms profusely in June, grows to a height of 150 centimeters.
Also from June, meadow rue (Thalictrum flavum) , which grows up to 200 centimetres high, pushes up its yellow flower clusters in front of the evergreen hedge. In front of them, violet-blue umbellate bellflowers and blue Himalayan cranesbill create a great colour contrast. The Japanese sedge, which stays green even in winter, is reminiscent of dune grasses. From April, light purple carpet phlox and white fragrant poet’s daffodils greet those seeking relaxation.
